My Vintage Kitchen Tools

It's been 3 years this week since we moved back into the house after the edition was finished. I was finally able to display all of my favorite kitchen tools and decorations that I have been saving and gathering from all of the family and friends who have shared them with me. I love it! I love being in my kitchen and using the canning funnel when I make jam that my Gramma Yeager used to use when she canned peaches. I love using the orange 1970s Pyrex bowls that my mother used to use when I was growing up. I love having the knife holder that was Jason's Gramma Gihring's, and given to me by my mother-in-law, Elaine.  I love doing my dishes when I can look at the curtain my Aunt Sue just sewed for me. I have a story for almost everything and I cherish and appreciate all of the times I have have been able to spend with these women--and all of the cooking and baking that has gone on in all of our family kitchens.

This square is my favorite :) Julie gave me the lemon wall hanging. Aunt Janet gave me a few decorations that hung in her house or my Gramma Yeager's, I have a few kitchen tools that my Aunt Sue gave me that were from my Gramma Arthurs house (like the slotted spoon--I use it every time I make jam). My sister-in-law (Stephanie) and brother, David,  were sweet this Christmas and found me some fun vintage tools like the big juicer next to  the Home Sweet Home sign.

My Aunt Sue is so crafty; she sewed several items I had been saving up to be kitchen curtains, like tea towels, pillow cases that had been embroidered, and this colorful towel that has a recipe for apple strudel on it. I have a couple of flour mills and potato mashers above the sink--everyday tools for every woman's kitchen. Jason asked me if we would be using those mashers--no--of course not, I have the ones I still use in the drawer :).  I would need WAY more wall space if I hung up ALL of my kitchen tools :)

My view when I walk down the stairs into the kitchen every day :). Of course there are usually dishes piled up in the sink :)

We like having the knives up. It looks cool!  The small colander is from Steph and Dave.

The measuring cup holder is from Elaine--I think it is from her MIL. I think the kitchen hanger is from my mom's house. It was still in the original packaging :). I had to open it. I think it was priced at something like $.39.

Scissor holder and toll painting. I have a lot of these pieces. So glad to use some of them again. I imagine the day when women had a few spare moments to make something pretty to hang in their kitchen and to share with their friends. Elaine gave me the holder and I think my Aunt Janet gave me the round plaque.

This is on the opposite wall in my kitchen. Some of my prized possessions--my mom's Pyrex, my gramma's spice holders, my gramma's kitchen tins, rolling pins from all of the women in my family (a few made by their husbands), plates from Julie, the candy dish Gramma Yeager always used to have out on her buffet, special pottery from Aunt Sue and Uncle Andy, plates from Aunt Jackie. Almost every piece has a story. And because they are out--I try to use them frequently.

The orange Pyrex bowls from my mom sitting on top of my wedding china, and my first rolling pin.

The Office--DONE

Yeah! I am marking off another room as done. The Office.

When we first moved in 15 years ago, it was our 3rd bedroom and we used it as an office. Then when it was time for Daisy to get her own room, we moved her into it and moved our office into our kitchen--I think it was maybe officially supposed to be a breakfast nook--we for sure never had space to put an actual table there. Here is our old office.

That space now no longer exists--it is the start of a staircase and the entrance to Daisy's Harry Potter space under the stairs...more on that later :)

So Daisy's old room (Our New Office) was painted green with purple flowers, and personalized with her name.

It was often a catch all room so it was usually overflowing...and here even more so as we had to stuff all of our contents into our 3 old bedrooms while the original hardwood floors were being redone.

Once Daisy officially got moved into DJ's old room, we have now been able to turn this room back into our Office. The room got a major makeover.

The new color is called Russian Blue, it is sort of a slate blue. And the carpet is dark blue...oh and the curtains are blue...sort of a calm room altogether.

I decided to add some Mario Bros. clings for decoration. I had bought them for DJ's room when he was 10 but he quickly outgrew them as a tween. I love them and so decided to use them again.

The closet above is now where I have a place to store my scout stuff and sewing stuff...I probably need a few dressers or something to store craft stuff....but that's a little ways down the road.

We set up our desks...it's really nice to have 2 stations.

And while I was cleaning out everything I got to organize my sewing supplies. I had bought a couple of old sewing boxes for me and Daisy...I am glad to finally be able to fill and use them.

So...The Office is DONE.  And another room will be tackled soon...

Daisy's Room Update

Counting Daisy's room DONE.

Daisy is now in what used to be DJ's room. When we first moved in, it was the first room I painted for my little baby boy of 3 months. He "helped" me paint...by pulling the paint tray over on top of him one day and all over his bouncer and the carpet...a very memorable day for me! His room was blue.
This is Daisy's original room. I don't have a good "before" shot. This is in the midst of construction when everything got piled into all of the old bedrooms. It was green with purple Daisy's.

This is DJ's old room--also piled up with stuff during construction. It was blue with a dark blue trim and white ceiling.

We cleared out the room and prepped it for paint. The bunk bed my dad built for DJ when he was 10. It is never coming out of the room in one piece :)  very big and very solid.

DJ helped me paint again. Daisy wanted a sort of minty green. The color changes a lot depending on the lighting.

Daisy had A LOT of different ideas for her room like splashes of paint everywhere and chalkboard paint....we decided on a few creative touches.

We painted a bulletin board with white glitter and blue chevrons to match a blue rug she picked out.
We prepped and painted a mirror with a gold frame. We turned it ultra pure white.
She loves paint and experiments frequently with drops and splashes. She ended up hanging a few pieces in her room over her windows.

Here is Daisy's NEW ROOM. I'm sure we'll add a few things here and there, but I am considering her room as done and ready to move on to the next.

Now...let's see what room is next...

Update--a Year Later--DJ's room

WOW! Life really gets in the way of finishing up a house :)

Can't believe it has been a year since I have updated here. Once we moved back in and started  actually living in our new space it was/is hard to set everything aside to work on the house.

But we have managed slowly. A few rooms are done or almost done.

Here is the update on DJ's room. I am counting his room DONE.

Here are the BEFORE picture:  This was my and Jason's room. I had painted the flowers the day before I went into labor with Daisy. It was hard to paint over those.

This is the MIDDLE: DJ learned how to paint! I did all of the cutting in and he did all of the prep work and rolling. He did a good job.

Here is the AFTER:  DJ's new room. He is king of his castle! He has been collecting signs for a couple of years and we finally can hang them. He also got a wall unit to store and display all of his video game consoles. He is trying to collect all of the classics.
